Le Pet Peeve

One of my biggest pet peeves is restaurants with French names, like Au Bon Pain, or a cafe I frequent regularly, L'etoile Deux. I have two options when mentioning these places to people: say them incorrectly and sound crass, or say them correctly and sound like a huge d-bag.

you've also hit the head on the catch 22 of sprinkling french locutions into every day parlance

is the restaurant really called l'Etoile deux (americans always forget the french don't capitalize any word in a title except the first one) because that doesn't mean anything. it literally means "the star two." les deux etoiles is "the two stars" and "l'etoile douce" is "the gentle star" ("l'etoile doux" doesn't work because etoile is feminine, but i thought of doux because of deux.)

I was mistaken-- It's Cafe L'Etoile d'Or. Still hate saying it.
